Sharp Nine Sessions – John Stowell & Brian Cunningham
The Sharp Nine Sessions are the culmination of three days of recording over the past two years at Brian Cunningham’s beautiful new studio in Bellingham, WA. The Jazz Project’s affiliation with the featured performers, guitarists John Stowell and Brian Cunningham, spans more than 20 years. Both Stowell and Cunningham have been performing for The Jazz Project since its first concert season in 1999, and have been instrumental in the development and propagation of Jazz Project programming. This recording marks the 11th on The Jazz Project record label—two of which have featured Stowell (Live at Lucia Douglas Gallery (2003) and Snow Angels (2007), and the latest Brian Cunningham Quartet, Blue Serenade (2012). After two sessions on this project, here’s the end result–nine tunes, mostly Cunningham’s originals, plus one from Stowell and a few arrangements of some lesser known tunes by John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, and Herbie Hancock.
